Award
For this award, we combined blown glass and metal: glass to form diverging rays as a metaphor for impact, metal to reinforce the architectural quality and contrast of textures.
During development, we used 3D printing to create around ten prototypes to see how the solution would look in practice. The glass "rays" needed to sit in the base's holes at a defined angle, so it was essential to develop a model that could later be realised in metal.
The challenge was to create ultra-precise holes in the stainless-steel base and secure the glass elements within them.
This was achieved using professional equipment, with contractors brought in to help. The steel plates were engraved.
